Highlights from 2017

Hey y’all! I’m still in disbelief that the year has come to an end. It started off pretty crappy for me. On the third day of January we buried my dad. And from there it didn’t get much better. But, there were some jewels along the way, and despite it all I truly thank God for keeping me sane and healthy this year because lord knows it was rough! So, I put together a list of things that made me smile just a little more in 2017. I even have a fancy little collage to give y’all a visual of the good stuff from the year ๐Ÿ˜Š

1. I added a new Louis to my collection. And by collection I mean it was my second one. I started 3 years ago buying one splurge item a year to treat myself for being an amazeballs human being and for the last 2 years I’ve bought a new Louis. Looking forward to next year already! And no, it’s not the most important thing that happened all year, but it was the first thing that made me want to do a backflip in the new year.

2. I spent more time with my fav girl in the whole wide world. I wanted to try to make the transition now that my dad is gone a little easier for her, and along the way we had some adventures, including me getting my first speeding ticket!

3. I got some new ink to remember my dad. It says “…to the moon and back” because that’s what he’d tell me everyday and I can still hear him say it. It hurt like heck and I don’t remember that much pain 15 years ago when I got my first, but it was worth it and it’s a nice reminder of a great man who I’ll always miss dearly.

4. I went to Atlantis with my world travel partner Sara and her sweet daughter Olivia. We had a blast. And of course the Bahamas was simply amazing. I look forward to the next trip girls!

5. I went to my first fancy spa with my girl Nijjall. It was for my birthday and worth every penny. They keep bringing you champagne, what more can I say! I’ll definitely add more spa days to my calendar in 2018!

6. I met an amazing man and it feels good to be happy again! He’s a private person, so I won’t put him on blast, but I have to say he’s a big reason why 2017 didn’t suck so much!

7. Thanks to that man I just mentioned, and because my dad was the biggest Clemson fan I knew, I went to my first ACC football championship. It was amazeballs! And I have to say, I actually do enjoy watching football. Like not all day, but definitely when the Tigers are playing. I made it a point to keep up with them this year because I knew my dad would have. I just know he was smiling down from heaven when they beat the brakes off Miami! Go Tigers!!!

8. And last but not least, I’m even closer to my Tina Turner leg goals this year! I started doing squats each time I have to go to the restroom and also standing for most of the day at work. I do lots of leg exercises during the day and now I’m loving the results. Except for the larger calves from the calve raises. I had to return a pair of boots because my calves were too big! But oh well, my legs are looking great!

So yeah, a lot happened this year. The good, bad, and everything in between. But I’m super excited for 2018. The best is yet to come! Merry Christmas and Happy new year y’all!

Got a zit? Try this

First of all, why am I even discussing zits when I’m almost 40? Yet here I am! I get the occasional zit, nothing major. But when I do, they’re usually big, annoying, and will leave a scar behind. Luckily, I found something that will zap them within a couple days. While if left alone, they will linger a lot longer!

This is the Target brand acne spot treatment. I don’t remember exactly how much it cost, but I’m thinking around $5. Try it, and thank me later!

Do you guys still get zits too? And what do you do to zap them?

Two products that made me love my foundation again

Hey y’all! I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving! I don’t think I’m feeling the cooking this year, so I think we’ll be dining at Cracker Barrel! Anywho, what’s been on my mind lately beauty-wise? Foundation. I’ve been a MAC studio fix C6 girl for years. I’m satisfied but every time it’s time to purchase a new one, I get the itch to try something new. Hence the previous post where I told you guys I didn’t love the Fenty foundation. But alas, instead of finding new foundation I found an amazeballs primer and setting powder.

Becca primer is just simply amazing. It provides a super smooth and illuminating surface for your makeup. It is a little pricey, this travel size was $18, but worth every penny.

In the last few years, I’ve fallen in love with setting spray, but when I tried this Kat Von D setting powder, I was so jazzed! I also got the travel size of this for $15.

I love to sparkle, so I love that it has a hint of shimmer.

It’s probably not a dramatic difference to everyone else, but I can definitely see the difference in the look of my makeup and for now, I’m satisfied!

Have you guys tried any new products that you love lately?

Patterned tights for the win!

If there’s one thing I love about cold weather, it’s wearing cute outfits with even cuter tights! A couple years ago at Ross I found a black pair that had a leopard print and I love them. I still have them, but I know they won’t last always, so I searched online and happened upon this site who had a similar pair for about $6, and of course I ordered them.

And I love them! My only gripe is that they’re actually pantyhose and I haven’t worn regular pantyhose in so long, I forgot how fragile they are and my nails poked a hole in the thigh area when I was putting them on. My skirt was long enough to hide the hole, but I did order a new pair yesterday.

Patterned tights are a great way to accessorize and turn a drab look into fab easily! I’ve never ordered or heard of ecrater.com before I happened to find it while searching for the tights, but shipping was super fast, free, and I had no issues.

Do you guys love patterned tights too?

I tried Fenty Beauty foundation…didn’t love it

Hey y’all! Hope you all had an amazing weekend. Mine was great, but exhausting, so I’m writing this while in bed already! So, I’ve been wanting to try a new foundation for the longest. I’ve been a faithful MAC girl for years. I still like my studio fix, but I’ve just been itching to try something different. After many recommendations and so much hype, I decided to try Fenty Beauty’s foundation. First of all, I’m a powder foundation girl, so a liquid was already a stretch for me. But I tried it anyway. Yes I know I should have just gotten a sample first, but I had such high hopes that I bought it…and now I’ll be returning it.

I was told that 350 was my match…but it’s a little off. A little too dark, and I’m not crazy about the matte finish. I like to look a little more luminous. Maybe I should try another person to match me to give it another go, but I’m just not sold on it. I have no other lines to compare it to because I don’t use liquid, but I will say it was easy to apply and dried quickly. I used a beauty blender to apply.

Have you guys tried Fenty yet? What did you think? Also if you have any powder foundation recommendations, please let me know!

Shoe lover tip: shop off season

Hey y’all! It’s Friday, yay!!!! I don’t know about you, but it’s been a long week. I could hardly wait for Friday to get here. I was so excited to finally get a taste of fall, but now we’re back into the 70s and even 80s at some point this weekend here in Charlotte. I’m just ready to wear all of my coats, sweaters, and boots already! Speaking of boots, I’ve found the best time to shop for them is off season. Because the good ones are so pricey, I like to buy them in the off season when they’re cheap!

I bought these amazeballs booties, that I’m actually wearing again today over the summer from Nordstrom Rack during one of the clear the rack sales where you get an extra 25% off clearance. They ended up being less than $15! The only thing about shopping during the off season is that you may forget what you have in your closet, so be sure to shop your closet first before going out shopping again!

Do you guys shop off season too? It’s really a no brainer! I’ve found some great pieces over the years. Off season and clearance rack shopping is the way to go!

Easy buffalo chicken pasta recipe

Sundays are normally the one day of the week that I actually cook a real meal. Yesterday I tried something new. I had seen a crock pot recipe for buffalo chicken pasta and decided to give it a whirl. Instead of the crock pot, I made the sauce on the stove top and then combined everything to bake it with some of the cheddar cheese on top.

It turned out pretty good. It tasted better the next day. I used the whole bottle of buffalo wing sauce, so it was super spicy. If you want a little less of a kick, then you may want to use less of the sauce.

Have you guys found any new recipes lately? Let me know!

A brown girl friendly red lippie

Hey y’all! Hope you’re all having an amazeballs week so far. We’ve made it to hump day, whoooohoooo! So, last Friday I was on my way to a concert and realized I had left my lipstick at home when I switched purses. I stopped at a CVS along the way, and found the most amazing red lippie. It’s now my new fav! At least for me, it has been a struggle to find a brown girl friendly red. And I’ve tried many!

This one is by Milani and it’s called confident. It’s matte, which I love. And I have nothing bad to say about Milani lippies. For the price, only 6.99, they are awesome. They are long-wearing and just an overall good product. I’m more of a deep red kinda girl, and this one is perfect. More good news, I just saw earlier this week that Milani cosmetics are coming to Ulta! I’m Super excited because CVS doesn’t carry the entire line, and I’ve been dying to try their finishing spray.

Have you guys tried Milani lippies? Do you have a fav shade?

Trouble sleeping? Try this

If you know me well, you know that sleeping is one of my fav pastimes ๐Ÿ˜‰ there are few things that I love more than getting my sleep on. But every now and then, it’s hard to catch those zzzzzzz’s! I found that melatonin combined with valerian root can not only help you fall asleep but stay asleep. But, I’m not a doctor, so you’ll want to consult with yours before trying this to ensure safety. Some supplements can interfere with your prescribed medication.

I did ask my doctor if this was safe, and it is. He also recommended taking 1-2 hours before bed. So, if you’re having trouble sleeping, and looking for something natural, and non-habit forming, you should definitely try this. Thank me later ๐Ÿ˜Š

Must try mud mask

Sunday nights have turned into beauty treatment night at my house! Tonight I tried something new. A couple months ago, I placed my first order from La Vita Lush. I ordered a body butter and eye shadow, but received a few other products complimentary, including this mud mask!

This stuff looks and smells good enough to eat. The coffee smell made me sad that I couldn’t buy my new Keurig this weekend ๐Ÿ˜” I ended up having to buy a new vacuum instead, because mine decided to die! Anyway, this stuff smells heavenly. I applied it and then got into the shower, then rinsed afterwards. I love that it has actual coffee grinds (or something that was exfoliating) and I scrubbed my face as I rinsed. My skin felt amazeballs afterwards. I actually want to scrub my whole body in this stuff now!

The creator of this line, LeKesha Benson is also from my hometown. So, not only are southern girls cute as a button and sweet as pie, we’re also super talented! You guys should definitely check her products out! From what I understand, they’re also all natural.

Have you guys tried any good beauty products lately? Do tell!!!
