Whitening teeth with activated charcoal

Standard

Hey y’all! If you’ve been following my blog for awhile, you know that I’m a sucker for a cheap beauty treatment! A few weeks ago I saw a blog about using activated charcoal to whiten teeth. I’ve been trying to whiten my teeth for years, so of course I had to try it! My teeth aren’t horribly yellow, but they’re not dazzling white either. I also love gas station cappuccino so my teeth get a little dingy looking from time to time. I do rinse with peroxide everyday and use a whitening toothpaste, so I’m sure they could be a lot worse.

So, I ordered my charcoal from eBay and it came super fast! Yay eBay. I paid around $7 for the 1.5 ounce container.

Let me start by saying, I’m not a dentist, I didn’t ask mine before using, so use at your own risk! From my research this isn’t anything new and this is an all natural product, so I felt comfortable using it. So far I’ve used it twice. The first time I mixed with coconut oil thanks to a tip from my cousin but it was very messy.

So the next time I just used it on a damp toothbrush. Less messy but still messy.

Be very careful because this stuff makes a huge mess and can stain surfaces. And it does look a little scary seeing your teeth black!

As you can see there’s just a smidgen difference after 2 uses so you’ll have to do this more than a couple times to see results. Results are very gradual.

To use, all I did was dip my wet toothbrush in the charcoal and brush for 2 minutes. If you want to mix with coconut oil first you can, coconut oil is also a natural whitener. I think I’ll try to let it sit a little longer on my teeth next time to see if that makes a difference.

I also took a pic in different lighting just to see, and they do look pretty white. The other pics are in my bathroom.

As I’m typing this I’m also sitting here with charcoal and honey under my arms to see if it lightens as good as I’ve read about. To be continued!

Have you guys heard of this or have tried it?

Fall nail color

Standard

It may still feel like summer on some days here in the carolinas but at least I can enjoy my fall color lippies and nail polishes! To me, dark colors scream fall. I love wearing dark colors on my lips and nails. I stopped by CVS yesterday to pickup some cough syrup, ugh stupid cold, and a Wet ‘n Wild nail polish caught my eye.

It’s called under your spell. It’s a really pretty brownish, deep red. However, le sigh, it’s already chipping a little, but since it only cost me .19 after coupon I’ll shut up with my complaints! I love the color though!

What are some of your fav fall color polishes?

Because you can never have too many brown lippies

Standard

So, there’s a new beauty supply store near my house that I’m obsessed with! It’s like a Walmart for all things beauty related! They have an amazeballs cosmetics section and plenty of cheap lippies to try! The brands are hit or miss with quality, but what can you expect when you’re only spending 1.99?

One of the brands I’m really digging for their matte lippies is Nicka K New York. I only bought one on my first trip, but from what I see so far, the pigmentation is great, and they’re pretty long-wearing, and I eat and drink a lot during the day! The regular matte lippies are also much better than the liquid as far as pigmentation. I bought one of the liquids yesterday and I wasn’t impressed at all once I tried it at home.

Here’s the color I’m wearing today.

The color is called maroon but it sure looks brown to me!

I’m also a HUGE fan of brown lippies. I already have a gazillion, yet every time I see one that I don’t have, I buy it! I still think my all time fav is MAC Antique Velvet. I have yet to find any matte lippies that I love more than MAC, yet NYX can hold their own too, and are way more affordable!

Do you guys love brown lippies too? I mean hello, they’re just a no brainier for cool weather!

My new fav brand of jeans

Standard

I’m still a little sad that summer, otherwise known to me as shorts season has come and gone. It’s now time for pants, leggings, jeans, and tights. I am a smidgen excited to start wearing my fall clothes. I have a love/hate relationship with jeans. When I find a good pair I love them, but it’s like finding a unicorn when you find a good pair. When you’re curvy, you’ve gotta deal with finding a pair that fits everywhere including the waist so that you can keep your butt crack covered when you sit and bend over, and when you’re short you’ve gotta find the right length! It’s just a never ending search! But I think I’ve found a winner.

The brand is d. jeans. You can find them at places like Ross, TJ Maxx, and Burlington. I have nothing bad to say about them so far. They fit great, the length is right, and oh yeah, they’re cheap!

The pair I’m wearing today are extra cute because they’re frayed at the hem and I love anything fringed or frayed! I found them on the clearance rack at Ross for $12. I also already had the same pair in a lighter wash. They’re also high wasted which I love because I hate having to constantly pull up my jeans!

Oh yeah, the amazeballs shirt I’m wearing also came from Ross. It’s my new fav top and it was only $12. So my entire outfit is less than $25! I told y’all I love a good deal!

Have you guys tried this brand before? If no, then you totally should! You can thank me later!

Almost dupe for MAC antique velvet

Standard

It’s fall y’all! And I’m starting to wear my fav fall lippies. I can hardly contain my excitement! Yes men who are reading this, we switch out our lipsticks with the seasons, duh! Antique velvet is one of my fav fall colors. It’s a super pretty brown. But at $17 a pop I’m always looking for a dupe for MAC lippies. True, there’s nothing like the original, but I just like to know I have options if I’m low on cash.

Mod mocha by Black Radiance is almost an exact dupe of antique velvet. Now, from the swatches, they’re definitely not identical, but very close. Mod mocha isn’t as matte of a finish as antique velvet and looks a little lighter.

But, when I wore them I could hardly see a difference at all. I’m wearing antique velvet on the left and mod mocha on the right.

Have you guys tried any Black Radiance lippies? They’re only 1.99 at Walmart, so you definitely can’t loose by trying them! I’ll probably pick up a few more colors next time!

Broccoli cheddar cheese soup recipe

Standard

It’s soup season, yay! I decided I was going to step out of my box and make soups other than vegetable and potato this year! I love Panera’s broccoli cheddar soup, so when I found this copy-cat recipe, I was super excited!

I decided to make it for dinner today and it turned out delish!

The only thing I would change next time is less nutmeg, or even leave it out completely because the amount the recipe calls for is a bit strong in flavor. I also added a splash more chicken stock to thin it out a bit.

I can’t wait to try more soups this fall/winter! Do you guys have any faves?
