Highlights from Florida

Hey y’all! Hope you had a safe and happy Fourth of July! I went to Weston, FL…yeah I know, I had never heard of it either, but it’s in south Florida. Weston is a small, quiet town but the location was close to larger cities like Ft Lauderdale and Miami. Overall we got a lot of rest and downtime. Can’t say we’d go back, but here are some highlights from the trip.

  • Swap Shop

Think giant flea market. It was so hot and I hate being a hot, sweaty mess, so I stayed in the air conditioned parts and didn’t explore as much as I should have. But I did find a cool souvenir t shirt. They were also closing up, so I probably missed out on some good finds. I think it’s worth checking out if you like bargain hunting and flea markets.

  • Horse racing

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m obsessed with the Kentucky Derby! It’s a bucket list item to go! So, I got to try my hand at horse race betting…I lost. We found a casino/horse track at Gulfstream Casino in Hallandale . It was fun and exciting to watch the races.

  • Miami

On a whim after leaving Hallandale, we drove to Miami, which was about 30 minutes away. After what seemed like forever looking for a park, we got drinks and a bite to eat, and walked around South Beach. I hadn’t been in about 13 years or so, so it was fun to get there again. I only wish we had been able to spend more time there. The Versace house is now a restaurant, I had no idea!

  • Everglades & gators

This was actually my favorite part of the trip, we went on an airboat ride in the Everglades to see gators! It was super hot and sweaty, but fun!

  • Beaches

Of course the beach was in the top running for the most fav part of the trip. While I didn’t get to spend much time laying out (I’ll make up for it in Aruba,) I got to go to Hallandale and Hollywood beaches. Both were beautiful.

Now I’m counting down to my big 40th bday vacay in Aruba!

How are your summer travels going?
